I’m wondering about the difference between Reformer and Matwork Pilates Classes. Which one is right for me?
Both reformer and matwork classes will give you a good workout, focused on core stability and building up strength and mobility. Both classes follow the same principles with the same benefits. In matwork pilates, you will gain a strong foundation in pilates practice, with exercises you can easily carry on with on your own at home. In reformer pilates, we use the springs of the machine to add resistance. This can increase the challenge of some exercises (similar to using different sizes of weights when you exercise), while providing more support in others, which adds variety (and fun) to the pilates repertoire.
What should I wear and bring to my pilates class?
For all our classes, we recommend wearing soft, stretchy, comfortable clothes you can move around in, and which allow our instructors to see what you’re doing. You’ll also want to bring water (no other drinks) in a metal or plastic bottle (no glass).
For a reformer class, we ask that you don’t wear any sharp attachments or jewellery that could damage the upholstery. And you’ll need to wear a pair of grippy socks, which you can purchase from us here and pick up in the studio before your class.
For most of our matwork classes (not the postnatal class), you’ll need to bring your own mat.
How does the monthly membership work?
A Classic Matwork Membership costs £38.00 per month, while a Classic Reformer Membership costs £57.00 per month. With either of these memberships:
You are entitled to 38 classes a year. This is one per week for each week that we are open.
We guarantee you a space in your regular class every week. This regular class time will be confirmed before you purchase your membership.
You will also get access to the on demand library of online pilates classes that can be used as often as you would like.
If you are unable to attend your class one week, please cancel your attendance on Team Up (our booking app). As long as you cancel more than 24 hours before the class begins, you will then have a credit available to book yourself into one of the other pilates classes of a similar style, subject to availability. This might mean booking into a different time on the week you’re missing your usual class, or (if you’re away for the whole week, for example) taking an additional class on a week that you are around.
28 days notice is required to cancel your membership.
I’m going to miss several weeks of classes. What can I do about this?
As long as you cancel your attendance in those classes more than 24 hours in advance, you will be given one credit for each class that you miss. You can then double up and do two classes a week (subject to availability) for several weeks to make up for the weeks you’ve missed. You could do multiple classes a week either before or after a long holiday, as long as you don’t go over 38 classes within a 12 month period, or try to do more than 2 classes a week or 6 classes a month.
As part of your monthly membership, you will also be given access to our full online video library of matwork exercises, so you can carry on with your pilates practice in your own time from wherever you may be.
I’m interested in your classes. How long is the waiting list?
A lot depends a bit on your availability. If your availability is pretty open and you have several different days/times you can take a class in, we should be able to fit you in within a couple of months. The fewer slots you have available, the longer it will generally take before we can accommodate you. We are regularly putting on new classes, though, so you never know when a space might open up that suits you! Keep an eye out for emails offering availability and reply as soon as you are able when a space is open that works for you.
How can I book a private 1:1 reformer pilates session?
A single 55 minute 1:1 reformer session costs £76 and can be booked by you in our Team Up calendar here.
Scroll through the calendar and find an orange “Private Class” with “0/1” next to it, rather than “Full 1/1,” at a time that works for you.
These are paid for at time of booking and have a 24 hour cancellation policy.
If you are interested in a 2:1 session for you and a friend for £115, or if you would like to arrange a regular recurring 1:1 slot for yourself, please contact us.
Are there any other health care providers you can recommend?
Yes! We have a good working relationship with Amanda and Tara, Pelvic Floor Focused Physiotherapists, at PROPELVIC, and we can highly recommend them for treating any pelvic floor issues, as well as for the Pregnancy MOT® and Mummy MOT® they offer to pre- and post-natal mums. Our studio space in Great Shelford shares a waiting room with them, so you may well see them around as you come in for a pilates class.
We also love Emma and Alex, osteopaths at BACK TO YOUR FEET. They are based in Harston and are very good at what they do.
And we can highly recommend the physios at SOUTH CAMBRIDGE PHYSIOTHERAPY in Hauxton for other physio needs.
